Richard Poe has an energetic, precise, and masculine voice that provides an ideal match for Emerson's novels about Seattle P.I. Thomas Black. In CATFISH CAFÉ, ex-cop Luther Little calls on Black, his former partner, because his daughter is a suspect in the shooting of a young white man. Now she is missing, and Little wants Black to find her. The case puts Black in an unwelcome position with an African American family. With little effort, Richard Poe shifts his narration smoothly between Thomas Black's likable wit and the various members of Luther Little's extended family.
