More than half of the book covers Macpherson's WWII years as a commando, prisoner of war, and resistance fighter in the Middle East, Italy, and France. Macpherson's breathtaking exploits are told with characteristic understatement by narrator Nick McArdle. His voice is strong and his accent cultured, if not particularly Scottish, and he pronounces European place names accurately. The audio production is spare and without embellishment.
