THE HUMANITY PROJECT

by | Read by Tanya Eby

Fiction • 12 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2013

The challenge this novel poses for narrator Tanya Eby is to express the range of attitudes and ages of a dozen or so main characters, all of whom are troubled or down on their luck but still somehow hopeful. These individuals--including two teens, a university instructor, a carpenter, and a nurse--weave in and out of the story until they become loosely connected by the ambiguous Humanity Project, funded by a wealthy widow. Eby is more than equal to the task, helping listeners recognize that a girl's apathy is really a mask for guilt and posttraumatic stress, caused by surviving a school shooting, and that a father's laid-back personality is a reflection of his bland acceptance of fate.
