HOW GREEN WAS MY MOUSE

Another gem from Dick King-Smith, this story and its narration focus more on character development and personality than on plot or action. Charlie Muffin is an inventor living quietly and contentedly on his mouse farm where he raises a variety of breeds and colors of mice. Then Merry Day arrives one day, looking to buy a pet mouse. Merry believes in possibilities and encourages Charlie to change, dream, and experiment. Nigel Lambert does an excellent job portraying the two characters, developing our image of them detail by detail. Merry's encouraging words to Charlie offer gentle lessons of persistence and a belief that all things are possible. A simple story is charmingly told by Lambert.
