A high school senior just out of rehab for drug addiction, Bea increasingly recognizes her ability to sketch other people's thoughts. Soon her frightening drawings pull her into the investigation of a series of murder/rapes that are terrorizing her community. The story fluctuates between Bea's present-day activities and her memories of past drug experiences. Her parents, AA meetings, new friend Chris, and even the investigating police detective give Bea the strength to move past her addiction. Narrator Kate Reinders gives a distinct persona to each character, especially Bea, whose voice reflects authentic adolescent sarcasm and vulnerability. As the threads of the story come together, Reinders builds the tension, keeping the listener engaged and leading to a satisfying conclusion. Her expressiveness, inflection, and pacing are on target for teen listeners. L.D.H. © AudioFile 2013, Portland, Maine [Published: JUNE 2013]
