ICE BOUND A Doctor's Incredible Battle for Survival at the South Pole

Jeri Neilson is the physician who discovered an aggressive malignant tumor in her breast while snowed in for the long winter at the South Pole. Evacuation was not possible until spring, and Neilsen was forced to treat herself. Stilted and jumpy, Neilsen often sounds like she is encountering her own words for the first time. Sometimes she becomes noticeably short of breath; admittedly, this is the result of ongoing cancer therapy. This struggle to tell her story aptly reflects the struggle her story tells, a painful, bittersweet account of her divorce and her career--a life of study, service, devotion, and the frustration of corporate medicine.
