THE KILLING CARDS

Alan Zimmerman's portrayal of Homicide Detective Lieutenant Mike "Ace" Amato is flawless. Amato is a renegade who finds joy in not playing by the rules, and Zimmerman amplifies the sarcastic and tongue-in-cheek conversations he has with the chief of police. A serial killer stalks the streets of Rochester, New York, and it soon becomes clear that he sees Ace as his next victim. The media are not portrayed too kindly by Campanozzi, and the press conference with a young male reporter and ambitious female reporter is delightfully enhanced. Zimmerman's consistently paced and evenly modulated voice helps listeners empathize with Amato's struggles to solve the crime and save his own life.
