UNDEAD AND UNDERWATER

Narrator Nancy Wu sounds like she's having fun despite being saddled with three disjointed, hard-to-follow, silly, and annoying novellas. In the first, a reluctant heroine dubbed "It Girl" who secretly works in the HR department of the most employee-friendly business ever and who eats anything to gain strength (staplers, guns, dirt) falls for a new hire while battling bad guys. In the second, Queen Betsy, the Queen of the Undead, joins forces with Fred the Mermaid, to foil a madman's plan to destroy Fred's under-sea folk. In the third, Lara, the new leader of the Wyndham werewolf pack, finds messy love. Wu is enthusiastic. Speed-narrating to the point of exhaustion, she ably makes each character distinct.
