Haven't you, at least once, wished you could read someone's mind? But how often do you think about the consequences? In these two stories, Matt is left a crystal by the old woman he befriended. The attached note tells him it's special but dangerous and warns him not to tell anyone about it. So Matt innocently puts it on and heads outside. It's a few days before he understands the power it gives him--both good and bad. Simon Shepherd gives Matt just the right amount of compassion, dreaminess, and practicality as he uses the crystal to read people's minds, and even to hypnotize them, until he realizes that the danger of the crystal is not knowing when and how to use it properly.
