THE FRINGE DWELLERS

by | Read by Shareena Clanton

Fiction • 10.75 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1961

As aborigines trying to find a place in a society that frequently rejects them, the Australian Comeaway family lives on the fringes. Noonah is willing to go along in order to get along while her headstrong sister, Trilby, chafes against the limits placed on her. As narrator, Shareena Clanton excels at developing individual voices for the characters. However, the production's muted sound quality should be sharper to make the most of Clanton's skill. In addition, the minute details in the prose are not ideally suited to the audiobook format, and the story drags in places as a result. Clanton's voice makes this worth a listen, but it may not be for everyone. L.B.F. © AudioFile 2013, Portland, Maine [Published: AUGUST 2013]
