BURYING THE PAST

British narrator Diana Bishop specializes in delivering crime fiction that is genteel and introspective. In BURYING THE PAST, Detective Fran Harmon is caught up in restoring an old rectory, bringing an assistant chief constable to the altar, and, almost incidentally, investigating the mystery of a skeleton found buried in a bean patch. Bishop rejects melodramatic or overly emotional character portrayals and is weak on accents. However, she provides crisp diction and an authoritative style.
