An Edinburgh detective returns to the island where he grew up to solve a mystery involving the legend of the Seal King, who takes human brides. A woman has vanished into the sea--and soon another disappears. Narrator Nick McArdle gives the characters definite brogues but keeps them gentle enough for listeners to understand. He also captures the hero's amusement and reluctance when his mother tries to make a romantic match for him. The story's remote nineteenth-century setting provides a strong ambiance.
