Laser brilliantly recreates growing up in the ’60s with all of its joys and sorrows. Marc Chaiken discovers girls, watches his father leave home, and contends with the class bully, all with the Kennedy assassination in the background. Narrator Jerry O’Connell brilliantly creates various nationalities, classes, and denizens of Queens, New York, as he brings each wonderful character to life. The listener feels that he/she is going along with Marc as he grows up and discovers a multitude of ways to deal with others, while learning that sometimes the best way isn’t necessarily the easiest way.
