CINNAMON AND GUNPOWDER

Kidnapped after witnessing the murder of his employer, chef Owen Wedgewood finds himself on board the ship of the infamous pirate Mad Hannah Mabbot. Each Sunday he must deliver to Captain Mabbot the "finest supper"-- limited ingredients and an inferior galley notwithstanding-- or else. Tension is high as Wedgewood plots menus and escape while Mabbot plots adventure on the high seas. James Langton's refined British accent captures Wedgewood's endearing pretensions and fading naïveté as he discovers a world far outside the well-stocked kitchen he's accustomed to. As befits a pirate tale, colorful characters abound, and Langton gives each a distinct voice. Most memorable is the ship's second-in-command, Mr. Apples, who sounds as salty and weathered as the ship itself. Charming and completely satisfying!
