A BROADWAY MEMORY Songs & Stories of the American Musical Theater

by | Read by Kitty Carlisle Hart

Biography & Memoir • 1 hr. • Audio Program • ©

Kitty Carlisle Hart's friends were the American musical theater--Jerome Kern, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, Rodgers & Hammerstein, Gershwin, and her husband, Moss Hart--to name only a few. In this tribute, Carlisle Hart creates a memoir in story and song. Highlighting her narrative with anecdotes, songs and song fragments, she traces the development of this unique form of American theatrical culture from the first musical, The Black Crook (1866). When Carlisle Hart recorded this musical recollection in 1997, she was 86 years old, and her singing voice had passed its prime. However, this memoir is delightful in its celebration of Broadway, and it's valuable as an oral history of the American theater. R.M. ©AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: JUN/JUL 98]
