THE SHADOW KILLER

This Rapid Reads young adult novel is relatively short but compelling, making it an excellent choice for reluctant readers or listeners. Late-night radio talk-show host Charlie D., who has his own difficult relationship with his dad, presents a Father's Day program on unhappy family lives. Suddenly, a young caller who closely identifies with Charlie threatens to kill his entire family. Narrator Daniel Maté is terrific as Charlie, who is blunt when necessary but also warm and truly caring toward his callers. The other radio staff members and callers are also distinctive and realistic. As the tension rises, so does the tension in Maté's delivery.
