FAT SEX The Naked Truth

by | Read by Joy Nash

Contemporary Culture • 9.5 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2012

Although not as provocative as the title might suggest, Weinstein's book offers a fascinating and sometimes moving chronicle of being overweight. She touches on diverse areas of her topic such as history, health and diet, online databases, and, best of all, personal stories. Narrator Joy Nash expertly delivers the author's funny, sad, and sarcastic commentary. Weinstein debunks the belief that the overweight are simply lazy and poor, and other myths. She also reveals that when the measure of obesity was suddenly decreased, many who were not previously considered obese were suddenly saddled with that label. Most surprising is the scorn shown for those who prefer fat partners. Nash's spot-on delivery enlivens and humanize the stories, which actually go beyond sex in this informative and sympathetic undertaking.
