In the footsteps of the poet himself, as well as those of Richard Burton, it takes some courage to record the works of Dylan Thomas, but Geraint Wyn Davies has portrayed Thomas numerous times on the stage and clearly feels comfortable with these poems and stories. His readings are not as operatic as the poet's own, but their restraint leaves more room for the listener to connect to the texts. The collection includes some of Thomas's best known works, including two versions each (abridged and unabridged) of "A Child's Christmas in Wales" and "Visit to Grandpa's," and three renditions of the title poem, including one sung by Mark Stone. Carole Shelley and Dana Ivey also make small but fine contributions. D.M.H. © AudioFile 2014, Portland, Maine [Published: MAY 2014]
