The founder of one of the largest and most successful discount chains in the world never lost his enthusiasm or love for what he was doing, and the narrator shares the same excitement and engagement as the author. There are many vignettes contributed by various Wal-Mart associates peppered into this first-person memoir, but reader Philip Franklin doesn’t do enough to differentiate quotes from the narrative. This causes some confusion. However Franklin’s folksy, down-home accent can really make listeners believe they’re listening to the Arkansas magnate tell stories of his ups and downs, while blowing his own horn all the way.
