Detective Sergeant Kate Power has been on leave from her job in Birmingham, first with a knee injury, then on vacation in Florence. On her flight home, suffering from a terrible cold, she sits next to a gentleman who engages her in conversation and promises to phone her. The next time Kate sees the man he is hanging from a bridge, quite dead, and she is reluctant to blame it on suicide. Patricia Gallimore gives each character a unique voice and is particularly successful with the male voices--so successful that at times it sounds as if more than one person is narrating. However, the thick accents sometimes require careful listening. But overall the performance moves along briskly while maintaining the suspense throughout.
