In his first foray into the Heroes of Olympus series, narrator Nick Chamian works his magic with the voices of the seven demigods who recount their adventures with monsters and warring Greek and Roman gods. In this installment, the quest to close the Doors of Death and prevent the giants from raising Gaea would trap Percy and Annabeth in Tartarus forever. The former Titan, Iapetus, now docile and renamed Bob, has a sweet and innocent voice that belies his monstrous nature. Chamian makes the audiobook lively by giving the characters excellent vocal and emotional portraits. Tartarus's exaggerated boasting is as convincing as Hazel's soft Southern twang.
