Their ice-fishing getaway is continually interrupted--first by a ghastly storm, then by a deadly fire and the disappearance of a girl. Lively police officers, nosy and concerned parishioners from Clare's church, and wily criminals are distinctly drawn by Toren. She also skillfully handles subtle humor and myriad accents, including, of course, Clare's lovely Southern drawl. In addition to searching for the girl, Clare and Russ worry about losing their jobs as they adjust to impending parenthood.
