IT HAPPENED IN WISCONSIN

by | Read by Dick Hill

Fiction • 10.25 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2013

Actually, not much happens in Ken Moraff's novel, but that's the point. Dick Hill narrates the first-person account of a Depression-era minor league baseball player who doesn't make it--and doesn't move on. Hill helps create a world with a lot of high-minded idealism and socialist politics, but the main character stays too firmly in place. It's a sad story, but there's joy to be had in the narrator's life. Listeners will feel the sensory pleasures of a rare meal of roast beef or the joy of love. The inertia of the protagonist might not appeal to some listeners, but for anyone who's inclined, the narration is in the best possible hands.
