Minnesota crime investigator Virgil Flowers returns in this seventh installment in Sandford's series, this time becoming ensnared in a strange tangle of biblical archaeology, international terrorism, and small-town Minnesota criminals. Eric Conger's narration shrewdly depicts the complex Flowers, who is somehow both serene and zealous as he tries to ascertain why a local professor would apparently steal a priceless artifact from an archaeological dig in Israel. Conger adds only slight characterizations to most of the international players but indulges in an over-the-top portrayal of a Texas millionaire. His quick pace is respectful of Flowers's quick wit and dry humor but still allows the listener to follow the story's convoluted twists.
