DANIEL PLAINWAY

by | Read by Arthur Addison

Mystery & Suspense • 9 hrs. • Unabridged • ©

In the third of Van Reid's adventures of Maine's Moosepathians, Daniel, a lawyer, sets out to find the kidnapped son of his now deceased friends in order to settle their estates. In the process, he encounters some of the most irresistible characters to cross a page since Dickens put pen to paper. Arthur Addison's reading is uninspired. He offers no trace of a Downeast accent, nor does he make any clear distinction between male and female characters. However, not even Addison's humorless rendition can prevent the charm of the skillfully plotted tale from shining through. Reid's wistful, bittersweet, often hilarious story develops at an appropriately leisurely pace. The writing is so authentically Maine, you can almost smell the sea.
