Father Laurent Carriere discovers an ancient shroud hidden behind the walls of his abbey in France. Carbon dating at the University of Arizona reveals that the artifact originated in the time of Christ. At the same time, a struggling a young scientist, Dr. Joshua Francis, reproduces the original DNA from dried blood on the shroud. Meanwhile, religious groups vie for possession of the supposed relic. This could have been a cliffhanger, but Hewlett burdens a good plot with his ponderous and pretentious prose. Lloyd James does a credible job reading the book in English, French, and variations of those languages. L.R.S. © AudioFile 2001, Portland, Maine [Published: OCT/ NOV 01]
