BLIND JUSTICE

Narrator Davina Porter transports the listener back to Victorian London in Perry's nineteenth William Monk mystery. As she makes subtle changes in timbre and accent to differentiate the various classes and personalities of the characters, her delivery carries a certain amount of gravitas, making every element seem a serious matter of life and death. When close friend and newly appointed judge Sir Oliver Rathbone bends the rules in an attempt to ensure that justice is served, Monk uses his deductive reasoning to dig out the truth. Although Porter has the proper English voice for the material, the tedious rehashing of ideas, thoughts, and feelings drags down the story to the extent that even the surprises hold no punches.
