MOMENT OF BATTLE The Twenty Clashes That Changed the World

by | Read by Kevin Foley

History • 15.5 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2013

Well-told military history can make for a gripping listening experience, and Kevin Foley's narration brings out the best qualities of these authors' storytelling abilities. Twenty of Western history's most important conflicts--beginning with Marathon, Greece, in 490 B.C., covering four WWII clashes, and ending with the drive for Baghdad in 2003--are recounted in pretty conventional military history, with a sharp focus on strategy and tactics. The battle stories are, nevertheless, tightly written and often dramatic, with good pacing. While the absence of maps makes the audio somewhat hard to follow, Foley's reading emphasizes the human drama and makes this work engaging.
