In the last few years the mining communities of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, have been the setting for some fine novels, including this one, which was made into the film MARGARET'S MUSEUM. It's the story of Margaret MacNeil, a young woman who lost her father and brother in the coal pit and her lover, Neil Currie, a bagpipe-playing giant of a man. Mary Colin Chisholm is wonderful as Margaret, and her Atlantic-Canadian accent is perfect for the character. She's less adept at the male voices, and it's a shame she tries them. But Chisholm comes through where it really counts--in her matter-of-fact delivery of the novel's macabre final episode. You won't forget the ending.
