THE JOB

by | Read by John Edwardson

Mystery & Suspense • 15 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1998

A few "bad breaks" and impulsive actions reveal the precariousness of an ambitious young salesman's lifestyle. In a few days, he plunges from the fast track into personal and financial ruin, and must reconstruct his life from scratch, with some illegal involvements along the way. John Edwardson is reasonably effective in the persona of the first-person narrator, creating empathy with his character's plight. He gives very little individuality to other characters, but this is not a serious failing in an essentially egocentric story. He maintains good pacing and dramatic tension in a performance which, while not striking, is free of distracting flaws. J.N. © AudioFile 2001, Portland, Maine [Published: OCT/ NOV 01]
