This is a not-to-be-missed addition to any listening library for fans of the British psychological mystery. Ruth Rendell is at her best in this collection of little gems about ordinary people who go through the wrong door or down the wrong street and whose lives, through no seeming fault of their own, go off the rails. Donada Peters is a true professional who lifts the characters out of the stories and makes them live and breathe. She never takes them over the top, but her quiet delivery builds the sense of confusion and impending terror to a nerve-tightening pitch. A perfect combo.
