Narrating passages alternately, the authors make a good effort to sound clear and get the phrasing right. Siegel's delivery lacks color, but his voice is authentic and warm. Hartzell's slow and deliberate enunciation isn't as easy to hear, but her desire to help eventually becomes more prominent than the stiffness in her performance. The audio is a highly informative and often intimate guide to understanding how brain functions essential for parenting are affected by childhood trauma and attachment disruptions. Smooth writing and stories from the authors' lives and practices allow this neuroscience book to sound accessible. Not just for analytical types, this is first-rate information and advice for anyone who feels blocked from being the parent he or she wants to be.
