Along with the book's slick writing and frequent dollops of humor, the author's entertaining narration of this fast-moving memoir makes it sound like a one-man theater performance. Bucatinsky is a natural performer who knows how to milk a line for all the pathos or humor it contains. He shares how he grew from being a single struggling actor to navigating the challenges of a mature marriage and being the father of the two children he and his husband adopted. He's hilarious as he describes confronting the parenting culture in loopy Southern California. Beneath the laughs, though, is a surprisingly inspirational story of how the powerful love he feels for his children transformed him, and how he learned to roll with and enjoy parenting's daily triumphs and frustrations.
