Melville's series features Senior Policewoman Charian Daniels's. Daniels' job this time is to watch over a recently released prisoner, one Joan Dingham, convicted in a series of grisly child murders some twenty years ago. Now the murders appear to have started up again. As a police procedural, this moves along straightforwardly enough; however there are one or two loose ends that never get explained that rankle a bit. The reading is nicely done. Norma West moves you smoothly over somewhat rocky ground in such a way as to allow the story to flow. Her skill with varied accents and character development makes for good listening despite the lack of tension. D.G. (c) AudioFile 2001, Portland, Maine [Published: DEC/ JAN 02]
