Alan Smyth's rich, quiet voice, convincing Irish brogue, and fine acting talent cannot save the second installment in the Cousins O'Dwyer Trilogy. The audiobook, which comes off as "filler" between Books 1 and 3, is an anomaly from the usually excellent offerings from Roberts, an icon of the romance genre. Hunky Connor O'Dwyer continues to battle but not yet triumph over the evil Cabhan with the help of Branna and Iona while finding love with the beautiful Meara Quinn. Repetitive, predictable, and slow, this audiobook, despite Smyth's best efforts, casts only a spell of disappointment. A.C.P. © AudioFile 2014, Portland, Maine [Published: MAY 2014]
