FOR VALOUR

by | Read by David Rintoul

Historical Fiction • 3 hrs. • Abridged • © 2000

The naval supply convoys of WWII are portrayed in this latest Reeman work. In this instance, we hear the story of Commander Graham Martineau, V.C., and his ship, the destroyer H.M.S. HAKKA. A number of small actions are depicted along with a grand climatic action, in which the HAKKA virtually single-handedly saves a group of ships bound for Russia. This scene is reminiscent of the author's early work, H.M.S. SARACEN. All this action is skillfully read by David Rintoul, who has narrated numerous other works by Reeman. His strong baritone moves nimbly through the text. Rather than give each character a distinct voice, he ably differentiates characters with slight changes in inflection and pacing. A deceptively skillful reading of an exciting story. M.T.F. (c) AudioFile 2001, Portland, Maine [Published: DEC/ JAN 02]
