SHADOW OF A TIGER Dan Fortune, Book 5

by | Read by Stephen Bowlby

Mystery & Suspense • 5.25 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1972

P.I. Daniel Fortune's trip to the pawnshop leads to a murder investigation with a connection to the French Resistance of WWII. Steven Bowlby's reading of Fortune's first-person point of view is solid. The down-on-his-luck detective's account brings to life a seedier New York City gone by. Bowlby's deep voice lingers over descriptions and inner monologues in fine noir tradition. The story does veer into cliché, however, both in its setting and its characterizations. As a result, the 1972 mystery doesn't stand the test of time without signs of dust. However, listeners who already enjoy the author will find the narration in good hands.
