Brooklyn Assistant DA Andrew Giobberti knows his life is falling apart. One year earlier, his daughter died. This event and his subsequent self-blame have ended his marriage. He has become apathetic about his job and is drinking almost every night. Juggling dangerous romantic relationships at work, he is assigned a case--the murder of a young girl in a shooting--that everyone but him sees as open and shut. Unexplained details haunt him and drive him to solve the case, and perhaps redeem himself. David Colacci brings a world-weary tone that suits Giobberti and his story. The voices of the ghetto neighborhood associated with the case, as well as the Brooklyn cops and lawyers, are read with energy and personality. The despair of Giobberti's life never quite fades from the narrative and Colacci's tone, but the author and the narrator build the pace of the story as the case advances, drawing the listener into the DA's growing need to solve this case and stop his own downward spiral. Engaging and listenable, this story is well worth a visit to Brooklyn. M.A.M. (c) AudioFile 2001, Portland, Maine [Published: DEC/ JAN 02]
