THE SERVICE OF CLOUDS

Two lost souls from dysfunctional families find each other in the Blue Mountains of Australia. Harry Kitchings, philosopher and photographer of clouds, captures the heart of Eureka Jones, a pharmacist's assistant yearning for potions of the heart. Jenny Seedsman brings a dignified air of quietness to the sad story of miracle cures and love lost. Rather than perform each character, she tells the story in her own voice, which becomes the first-person voice of Eureka. Seedsman's light Australian accent enhances the believability of the setting, and she layers her narrative with an underlying melancholy. Many of the places and characters in the turn-of-the-century plot are taken from real life of the period, but the story itself is timeless. R.P.L.
