Ham provides a detailed examination of the causes of WWI and a colorful overview of its onset. Robert Meldrum narrates with intensity, even urgency, as if announcing the historical events as they occur. With great clarity, a strong British accent, a vigorous voice, and energetic pacing, he keeps the detailed sections from lagging, though occasionally, at his pace, the level of detail is too much to take in. He does well with the rare opportunity to act a role or provide a regional accent, and his foreign accents and pronunciation are usually good. A solid book and a lively reading should keep those with a serious interest in the subject absorbed and listening eagerly. W.M. [Published: AUGUST 2014]
