ANIMOSITY

In this horrific tale of revenge and madness, sculptor Ross Marteau has just terminated a three-year relationship with a woman and has returned to his Texas hometown from Paris to work on a commissioned piece. Instead he finds himself inextricably bound up with Celeste Lacan, who has asked Ross to make a sculpture of her sister Leda, a hunchback. The two women draw Ross into a violent murder with their dark history not revealed to the very last pages of the story. Gruesome scenes might turn some listeners off, but the real turnoff is the unsympathetic, at times affected, artificial, and condescending, narration by Scott Brick. S.S.R.
