How can you fight an enemy with the face of a friend? This supernatural thriller weaves together the stories of characters in three time periods, all of whom face a shape-shifting evil creature. Narrator Gemma Whelan has a lilting tone that effortlessly transitions into British, French, and Hungarian accents, but her narration is hampered by mouth noises throughout. At moments during dramatic scenes, she sounds hurried and out of breath. The many Hungarian names are believably pronounced but are so numerous that they’re hard for the listener to keep track of. This is an intriguing story but one that demands strict attention. E.E. © AudioFile 2014, Portland, Maine [Published: DECEMBER 2014]
