CHARLIE MUFFIN

Charlie Muffin is one of the best spies that the Department has in this tale of British espionage. But his crumpled suits and down-market accent embarrass the Department's new chief, who would be glad to be rid of Charlie, even setting him up to be killed. But Charlie, given a wry tone in Hayward Morse's terrific reading, is a survivor. He'll try to beat both his Soviet antagonists and his own side at their game, providing much entertaining observation along the way. Morse's knowledgeable pacing serves to highlight Charlie's laconic commentary, while his impressive array of voices and accents creates a playlist of memorable characters.
