DETAILS is a gritty inside view of poor blacks, gangs, TV journalism, and Chicago cops. When feisty reporter Georgia Barnett learns that a child she interviewed about a murder is missing, she feels responsible. Patricia R. Floyd is up to the challenge of portraying Garland's well-developed characters. The child, Little Butter; her devout grandmother; and the other members family are every bit as compelling as the gang members. Floyd makes listeners feel part of the tension of the police investigation and movingly reveals the inner conflict felt by many black cops. This Griot Audiobook, which brings African storytelling tradition to a contemporary African American venue, is enlightening while also very entertaining. S.G.B.
