The author's style of jumping around in time with memories and conversations concerning all three Pattons creates a confusion little helped by his calling them all "Patton." While Adams Morgan drops many words and phrases into a low register, his forte is a laudable ability with the French and German phrases. He also narrates with a lively, spirited attitude, creating a fast-moving look into the Patton family history of military service from WWI to Vietnam. Having the narrator read the table of contents in the beginning is unusual, but appropriate, because it gives an overview almost like a plan of battle.
