THE CANTERVILLE GHOST AND OTHER STORIES

by | Read by Donada Peters

Fiction • 5 hrs. • Anthology • ©

Here is an example of impeccable recitation transcending all gender. In spite of Donada Peters's high, very feminine voice, she accomplishes cross-gender depiction with perfect enunciation and an understanding of the stories. The selections move from the provoking logic of the title story, to matters of crime, love and fraud, to moralistic fairy tales. For this last,Peters's voice rises to a higher pitch, comparable to that of an English nanny. Given the quasi-sanctimonious tone of the fables, this is not all bad. Wilde's lessons can be sticky at times. S.B.S. ©AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: FEB 93]
