Before coming to his current teaching position, Graham Shipley suffered a nervous breakdown brought on by an accusation of molestation from a former student. But when a local teenager turns up dead and Shipley finds the body, suspicions threaten to destroy his fresh start. Shipley’s neighbor, crime writer Melissa Craig, must help to clear his name. For the most part, Diana Bishop presents this British mystery in an understated tone, with a soft voice and subtle tonal variations. While she gives Shipley and Craig clear speech and natural voices, her teenagers receive exaggerated dialects and inflections, as do an elderly deviate and some minor characters. Musical interludes announce the end of each side of a tape but do little to enhance the production. R.P.L. © AudioFile 2002, Portland, Maine [Published: FEB/ MAR 02]
