ORIGINATOR

Part mystery, part sci-fi adventure, part morality tale, Claire Carmichael's post-apocalyptic story touches on everything from the consequences of genetic manipulation and cloning to global warming to class discrimination, and should appeal to teens interested in the latest scientific, technological, and environmental advances. Francis Greenslade's Australian accent adds authenticity to the futuristic Australian setting, and he successfully ratchets up the chilling suspense. Several twists lead up to the climax, but the ending feels a bit too pat. ORIGINATOR is appropriate only for older readers, as there's some frank language and (even taboo) sexuality.
