Narrator Jennifer Vuletic captures the tumultuous personal and professional lives of the main character in this story of domestic instability and finding oneself. Vuletic’s energetic narration brings out the chaos Tilly, a gifted barrister, encounters when she’s sacked from her job and discovers her seemingly workaholic husband in the arms of her perfectly groomed professional rival. The contrast between Tilly’s proper British articulation and the speech of her brassy Australian mother, Roxie, is beautifully conveyed through Vuletic’s quick shifts in tone, pace, and accent. While much of the comedy is provided through Vuletic’s portrayals of Roxie and bad-boy lawyer Jack, she’s able to shift to a more serious tone for the dramatic parts of the story as well as highlighting its heartfelt moments.
