BODY BAGS

A thriller with a teenaged heroine, BODY BAGS follows college freshman Jenna Blake as she outwits the FBI, the cops, and even the medical examiner's office to solve the mystery of why ordinary people are turning into homicidal maniacs before they die. And the plucky coed does this while being pursued by--what else--a homicidal maniac. Julie Dretzin injects her reading with equal parts spunk and fear, and truly BECOMES Jenna for the listener. Dretzin's youthful voice works best as 18-year-old Jenna herself, but she has the versatility to give weight to everyone from the hoarse-voiced stalker to the dryly precise medical examiner for whom Jenna interns. In the pivotal chase and fire scenes, you'd swear Dretzin was running and choking on smoke. This one packs an adrenelin rush of suspense. M.C.
